Sliding-type doors are not just limited to doorways but are also installed as cabinet doors, closet doors, and balcony or patio doors and also as room dividers. They are built with different materials such as metals and glass. Glass gives the illusion of a bigger space since it lets you look over to the other side. Sliding-type doors may be all clear, frosted, translucent and may have etchings or printed designs. Customization for sliding doors is endless. Slide doors never go out of style. Since they are functional and highly customizable, they will never be passé. Getting a slide-type door is easy to maintain and can easily blend in with the theme of the room. Whether in a modern or traditional setting, sliding-type doors will still be able to blend in. Should you wish to change the design, there are easy tips and tricks on how to jazz up an old sliding door to make it look new again.
1. Firstly take the slider door off the track and place it to the side. This many require a little muscle, but is easy enough to do. If you are unable, try turning the screws on the rollers clockwise and then lift the door from its frame. 2. Clean the track with soapy water and a wire brush. 3. Take a metal file and file down and rough spots or ridge that are sharp to the touch. 4. Measure the length of the old track. 5. Cut the new stainless steel track to this length. 6. Place the new track on the old aluminum track. It will snap over the old track and then with light dabs of glue, glue down on the threshold. 7. Lubricate the new track for smooth opening and closing 8. Remove the old rollers by removing the frame lock screw, lift frame and then remove. Now slide the new rollers into place and re-install frame lock screw. 9. Re-install the sliding door and test the opening and closing. As an additional note, it might be worth it to consider purchasing a manual retractable sliding door screen or motorized screen. This screen will allow you to keep your sliding door open in summer, but keep the bugs and insects out. These screens will retract back into their housing when not in use, but will cut down on the opening and closing of your sliding door.
Aluminum slide doors uses thermally broken, strong and durable aluminum for this purpose. Such doors have been used in hotels and restaurants since many years. They are the older forms of sliding doors that have been used in both commercial and domestic areas. The system designed for the purpose uses top that has guide rollers and all the weight is put to the bottom. This way smooth operation of opening and closing of door is achieved. It is still one of the most demanded materials for sliding doors as they dont require much maintenance. Plastic or PVC is another popular choice in sliding doors since they are the latest ones. The cost of doors with plastic is the least as compared to other materials. They are the best choice when there is demand of affordable and long lasting doors. At times you will have to compromise with the quality of plastic if you want a good design.
Let us look in to the two main types of doors available today. Top hung Sliding Doors This is the most commonly used type of sliding doors. They are used in commercial places and homes as well. Two trolley hangers are used to hang the door at the top. The hangers take all the weight of the door, which makes the door slide easily without any problems. Track stoppers are fixed on the concealed tracks at both ends. They are responsible to hold the doors at both ends on the track. This type has the maximum weight limit depending on the trolley hangers used. This is the reason most suppliers provide door weights. In simple words, the size of the door matters when using top hung doors.
